Need Help with Mac OS Maverick

Getting frustrated, maybe someone can help me. Previously using Snow Leopard and then shifted to Maverick.
here are my concerns:

1. in iCal, Snow leopard shows the events in colored text. My iCal only shows the bullets in colours and text in black. but my wives iCal shows no bullets, and her text is in colour, and we have the same version. What should i do to change the coloured bullets to coloured text?

2. In my folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, etc) every time i leave or add something in the folders, it rearranges itself completely to alphabetical order. i want to keep it the way i rearranged it. what can be done to make it stop rearranging my files?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Right click then hover on "arrange by" then select "none". Just use "clean up" if you want to arrange them properly on the grid.

thanks scrupulous, i tried that, but i still doesnt work. especially when i add a file in a specific folder, it re arranges itself back to alphabetical format
