    Default PPPoE connection. HOW TO SHARE WINXP to WIN98se

    A friend of Mine needs help..

    1. How to configure the Win98se computer to have access to WINXP PPPoE connection?

    This is the physical configuration: (OFFICE)
    ---
    MYDsl (PLDT) INTERNET -> DSL MODEM(ZYXEL) -> ROUTER (LINKSYS) -> PC1(WinXP) and PC2(Win98se)
    ---
    PC1(Winxp) has the internet connection. PC1 and PC2 is networked.

    2. Im new to this type of internet connection (dialing to ISP), can my friend ask the PLDT for change of ALWAYS CONNECTED type of DSL?

    Thanks in advance..

    I think your setup is fine...you just need to configure the PPPoE connection on the router and all other PC should just connect through it.

    are u using dual ethernet LAN?

    Yeah, MK is right that you have to configure the dialer of the PLDT... And you need to ask also the username and password...

    (from your 1st question)... You don't need to configure pppoe connection to access winxp from win98... All you have to do is make your winxp as your proxy server...that's all... WInxp will be the one to dial to PLDT dsl.

    (from your 2nd question)... I think you can but for mostly configuration from residencials are configured to be pppoe /pppoa...

    @juantamad

    - 1 LANCARD only to each pc..
    - they're using it at the OFFICE. I think they're using a BUSINESS PLAN (not sure)..

    If I will use the ICS NAT, how will I configure the WINXP and the WIN98SE ?

    ----
    IP Add:

    WINXP - 192.168.2.1, 255.255.255.0
    WIN98SE - 192.168.2.2, 255.255.255.0
    ----

    Thanks for the replies..

    I was wondering with your connection, is your winxp pc connected through ethernet of linksys router? if yes, the linksys will provide the dialing to the internet but not the xp if i understand your setup..

    For now the XP dial thru the internet... The Winxp is the only pc connected to the internet. I want to share the internet from WINXP so that the other pc (WIN98SE) can also connect to the internet (NOT USING a PROXY SOFTWARE).. The router is not configured to dial, only the WINXP PPPoE dials thru PLDT. I think, the router is just operating as a SWITCH.

    Hope you understand what my problem is.. Thanks.

    please post your setup daw.

    hopefully you had the easier/more practical setup which is to setup your modem as a router and make it always on connection so that you don't need ICS anymore. If current configuration nimo is that the XP dials up to internet then ICS will still work.. but pangit nga solution since you have to run xp first before you can access internet on your win98.

    @[DSX] - sa karon ang ROUTER act as a SWITCH only. Dili lang nako hilabtan ang configuration sa router kay ang head office man daw nila ang ga configure ato, wa sila kahibaw sa IP sa router, dili sad nako e reset ang router... Mas nindot unta kon ang router ang ipa DIAL para dili nako mag ICS.

    DSX, naa pa kay lain solution ani?

    akong solution is:
    ====================
    PC1 (with internet) WINXP
    IP Add: 192.168.2.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: (LEAVE THIS BLANK)
    PREFERRED DNS SERVER: (LEAVE THIS BLANK)

    PC2 (Workstation) WIN98
    IP ADDRESS: 192.168.2.2
    SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0
    DEFAULT GATEWAY: 192.168.2.1
    PREFERRED DNS SERVER: 192.168.2.1
    ====================

    hi nutjugger,

    what model of modem are you using, normally the modem does the auto-dialling...in your setup in the win XP machine, can you type 'arp -a' in the dos prompt, if your router has an ip address, i might show there...
